Experience
Owner of a Discovery. I've had many mishaps with our Disco but I still like this vehicle. Talk to a fellow LR owner instead of a dealership rep. I'm not in this for the money. I'm just an owner who wants to help others.

Land Rover Repair - demage on car, while servising it

Expert: John McInnis - 5/19/2009

Question
I took my Frelander model 2000 TDI - to a Land Rover dealership - Constantia Kloof in south Africa, for supply and fit 4 shock absorbers. 3 days later they have informed me that the control unit is not working, and that's why, the car is not starting any more. When I brought the car - it was working 100% After they have replased the shocks is no more working. I was told the car is too old, it's just bad luck for the dealership, that it hapend while the car was in their possetion. and offcourse the extra cost will be for my account. How to believe this?  How it's posible the servise provider conviniently to transfer the cost to the consumer. Cost that was raised as a result of his own incompetency?

Answer
Hi Kiril,

interesting situation.  Strange that an unrelated component to the service is no longer functioning.  I'd escalate this problem and see if the dealership will do the repair for free.  You have a valid point.

I've had problems with my dealership in which they claim the problem existed before they serviced the vehicle.  I've never won this argument as it is difficult to prove otherwise.

IF you are not satisfied with the dealership response, go to your consumer protection agency within your government for assistance.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
