Land Rover Repair/Door key does not work

Question
My Freelander Land Rover 2002 model has suddenly stopped locking. When I insert the key in the front drivers door the key goes in but does not turn or lock any of the doors. Please give me clue as to why this is happening? Thanks

Answer
If the key does not turn in the lock, then the kay is damaged or the lock has failed.  If the key won't turn any locks on the vehicle it's probably the piece at fault.  If the key turns the ignition but not the door lock, then the individual lock has failed.

There is no electronics involved here.  It's just a mechancial thing, like the lock on your front door at home.
