Land Rover Repair - 98 range rover front driveshaft

Expert: John Robison - 7/8/2009

Question
I recently purchased a 98 range rover 4.6 hse.  It had previously had the front driveshaft[from transfer case to differential] blow apart.   Will it cause any damage to the vehicle to drive it this way, until i can get a new [used] one?  thanks for the help

Answer
You can drive it that way but doing so may ruin the viscous coupler in the transfer case, a $1,000 part.  Then again, it might not.  They are unpredictable in their ability to tolerate that particular stress.

The car should drive ok as a two wheel drive Rover otherwise
