Question
i have a 1996 landrover disc i start it and about 20 min it starts to overheat but if i turn on the heater it cools down the water is good so is the fan but hoses are hard to the touch like they have pressure in them

Answer
Hi Emilio,

could be a blocked radiator.  You should have the radiator tested then have the entire cooling system tested IF the radiator is ok.  Its also possible that the thermostat may not be functioning.  Changing the thermostat is like any other vehicle and if you can change the spark plugs, it is almost as easy to change the thermostat.
Another possible cause could be a blown headgasket.  Its possible that exhaust air is getting into the cooling system and thus the pressures and heat will increase.

For the moment, try testing the rad, replacing the thermostat and coolant to see if that fixes the problem.  You can have the rad replace by most local rad shops for $200 to $400, if that is the cause of the problem.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
