About Rosemary Lenc
Expertise
I am a retired Middle School teacher. I am an expert in grammar (structure of the English language) and writing. I have been a volunteer with AOL Ask A Teacher and have submitted many articles and special collections (one on diagramming sentences and one with worksheets and answers so students can check their own practice on grammar skills) to their knowledge database. I still am with them but would like other work where I can help students with their English study. I have time to help you with this, if you want me. I can help with grade school, middle school and high school grammar & writing and can also look up information on literature (reading) for students and help them with it. Please let me know if I can be of help in these areas. Thank you. Rosemary Lenc

Question
Hello,
My son is now being home schooled.  It is a very long story that ended with the ISD was not able to meet his needs.  He has a learning disability in reading and dyslexia.  What I am looking for are work sheets that can help him in the area of language arts.  He is on a third grade math and science level and a l.5 reading level.  He is currently working a program called click to read that is the number one home school phonics program.  Thank you for any help or suggestions you can offer.
Kathy

Answer
Dear Kathy,
I have spent sometime checking out places I thought you be helpful to you. My very first suggestion is that you join a home schooling group in your area.
The following sites will help you understand what is happening with your child’s learning processes and I feel that is very necessary for you to do that as it will help you then to be more understanding when your child has problems.  Patience is the key word for you and for your child, especially since you are home schooling your child.  Be sure you join a home schooling group to support you as you do the home schooling.  The group will also have various activities available for you and your child to attend to aid in his education.  Click on the various parts that are listed on the left side of the screen.  They will help you.

Read the following one also.

Another good site for you to read over and think about as you school your child.

This site will help you find out what are your child’s problems in learning.
It is a screening device that will help you do just that.
Note also the list on the left side about  home schoolers. (Sorry, I just looked at that site and it is the screening test again.  It also seems they are “selling” their tutoring helps.  I know you can do better. Look at the sites at the end of this letter.

The following site will help your child understand that having learning disabilities DOES NOT mean he/she is dumb.  It only means he/she has to work harder at learning.  He/she will learn.  It just might take time.  It would be good for you to read this over with your child to help him understand what is happening.
