About Rosemary Lenc
Expertise
I am a retired Middle School teacher. I am an expert in grammar (structure of the English language) and writing. I have been a volunteer with AOL Ask A Teacher and have submitted many articles and special collections (one on diagramming sentences and one with worksheets and answers so students can check their own practice on grammar skills) to their knowledge database. I still am with them but would like other work where I can help students with their English study. I have time to help you with this, if you want me. I can help with grade school, middle school and high school grammar & writing and can also look up information on literature (reading) for students and help them with it. Please let me know if I can be of help in these areas. Thank you. Rosemary Lenc

Question
hello, Rosemary, I have to write a character analysis about Medea, my question is, How do I cite in my paper the source. what I am doing is (Euripides page #,lines)ex.
(euripides 456,12-15). I am doing it from a book, I also took information form an internet web site, there is no Paragraph #'s, only pages. And when i cite the work in my paper i gave credit to person that translated the work of Euripides, For example (Coleridge Line#), I counted every line since they not numbered. or should i only write (Coleridge page #) Please help!!!!Someone revised my paper and told me that i cited wrong my paper. ! i tought that everything was okay and i have a chance to hand in my paper is today, july 2,this evenig.

Answer
Dear Yesenia,
Remember that the main reason for quoting from a source is to back up your own ideas.  Therefore, in citing a source, give enough information as is available so that others might be able to go to that source to verify the quote.  If pg # are NOT available, you can’t give them.  Give whatever is available. If the line # is not given, than give whatever is available, such as page number, etc.

Since  I do not know what format you are using, I will give you sites on the internet that will guide you in giving the information you need to cite various places.

MLA Format: generally used for literature and generally is the one most professors will accept.  If you don’t know which format your professor wants, then you must check with him/her.

For other formats:

Click on the the format at the top of the page which will give you each of their styles.

BTW, you may find this site helpful also.

http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Euripides

If you use this page or one of the pages they refer you to, you would give credit to this internet site and then the quote from Euripides with its line, etc.

Hope this is helpful.
Thanks for using AllExperts.
