Expert: Debra Duenas - 11/7/2007

Question
Who can answer this question?
What is your name?
Whose pencil is this?

Can you help me to find the subject and predicate in the above sentences?

Answer
To get the subject and predicate of a question is it best to locate the verb first.
Usually once you find that it is a matter of reversing the sentence.

What is your name?
Name - subject,   your - adjective,   is  - verb
your name - complete subject,  is what - predicate

Whose pencil is this?
pencil - subject,  this - adjective,  is - verb
this pencil - complete subject,  is whose - predicate

Who can answer this question? does not need reversing.
Who - subject,    can answer - verb,  this quesion - direct object
can answer this question - complete predicate
