Question My pointer would move eratically on the screen but I solved the problem on my Dell D800 by doing the following:
1) activate the bios setup page (press repeatedly F2 at the beginning of the bootstrap).
2) press Alt-P up to page 4 of 7 of the BIOS setup.
3) using the up and down arrows, go to "pointing device".
4) pressing the "right" arrow, select "serial mouse"
5) Press Esc and reboot
But now I cannot switch my laptop on with the power on button at the top. It looks liek diabling the touchpad also disabled these buttons. Please can someone tell me how I can switch this laptop back on as its useless atm :)
Answer Hi Darren, disabling the touchpad should not disable the power button. It's more likely a coincidence that these happened at the same time, and there may be another problem. But, as far as turning it on, if you can find a docking station to plug it into, you should be able to use the power button on the docking station to turn it on and change the settings back.
