Laptop Problems - Heating problem?

Expert: Shot - 4/23/2008

Question
Hi I have a Sony Vaio Notebook PCG-K15F. It used to be fast enough for me but now it is annoying. I noticed that when you start the pc everything works fine but after a few minutes the fan starts working very hard and the pc becomes very hot and everything begin to slow down. Sometimes the pc comes so hot that it turns off. I canīt play any music or video files because it canīt keep up. I think itīs a heating problem because i already restored my pc to factory defaults and everything keeps the same.
What could it be?

Windows xp operating system.

2.8 G Pentium 4

512 RAM

I would appreciate your help.

Answer
Sounds like an overheating problem to me too Alexander. It's possible that the heatspreader has come loose from your CPU and needs to be reattached.

It could also be a hard drive problem, but that would usually make noise, and there are diagnostics you can run from a boot cd available here: www.ultimatebootcd.com.

Hope that helps!
