Question I have an issue with laptop screen going dark. I have an HP Pavilion dv1000, I noticed a few days ago the display looked a little red on one side. Then two days ago the display suddenly went completely dark. With a flashlight I could tell the computer was still running, but the backlight was not on. If I reboot, the backlight comes on for a few seconds but is not stable, it blinks and then goes out while Windows comes up. Stranger yet, if I disconnect the laptop from AC power the display stays on, but still flickers. Appreciate any suggestions.

Answer Hi Bob, 90% of the time backlighting problems are caused by a bad inverter. They're usually available online. It's a small circuit board located in the lower right hand corner of the display normally. Disassembly is required, and they run on very high voltage, so if you replace it yourself, be very careful.
