Laptop Problems - Laptop mouse

Question
QUESTION: Usually I use the mouse that is roll around but sometimes I have attached a desk mouse to my laptop and after that the up and down rolling on the laptop doesnīt work anymore and I donīt know how to switch it on. Like on websites for example when I want to roll up and down the page I have to use the keyboard buttons, which is not so comfortable. (Type- HP Pavilion dv6000). Thank you in advance!

ANSWER: Hi Dandy, let me make sure I understand. Are you saying the up and down scrolling on the desktop mouse doesn't work, or on the built in mouse? If it's the built in mouse, are you trying while the desktop mouse is still plugged in? That may confuse the computer so it won't work. Does it work again after a reboot? One more thing, are you using a USB desktop mouse or a PS2 type?

Let me know!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thank you! The up and down scrolling on the desktop mouse doesnīt work (just moving around and clicking works). Somewhere in settings there should be a place where to make the laptop to recognize its roll up and down button but I donīt know where and perhaps you could help me. And yes I am using a USB. Thank you!

Answer
It sounds like the laptop doesn't have a driver that understands the scroll mouse. If there is a driver disk that came with your mouse you could try installing that. If not, you might try going to the Windows update site with the scroll mouse attached and doing a custom update to see if it finds a driver under the hardware options.

You could also go to the control panel, select mouse and see if the mouse properties has a "wheel" tab, and make sure the wheel is enable.
