Laptop Problems - Laptop not getting power from AC Adapter

Expert: Shot - 4/26/2008

Question
Hi,
I have been using laptop for the past 8 months and it was perfectly fine.Yesterday the battery was fully empty and it automatically became off.  I plugged in the AC Adapter and connected the cable to the laptop.  Unfortunately the light(light which glows when laptop is charging) in the laptop does not glow.  I tried removing the battery and slotting it again.  Also I tried to put the AC Adapter to different points.  It did not help.  Kindly help me with my problem.   Thanks in Advance.

Answer
Hello Elango, the laptop should run on the AC Adapter without the battery installed. If it will not, it could be that the AC Adapter is bad (you can borrow one, use this one on another laptop or measure the voltage to check) It also could be the jack on the back of the laptop has a bad connection to the motherboard. An electronic repair shop can solder them back on most times. Worse case scenario is the motherboard is not using the AC power because it could be faulty.

I hope that helps!
