Question
Okay, stupid question. Someone gave my mother a used Dell Inspiron laptop. She wants DSL, but the device manager does not show an Ethernet card to be installed, and there is no place to plug in an Ethernet cable. Best Buy told her that if shes get a cardbus card this will take care of the problem. I don't know about cardbus cards any more than my mother, and I'd like to know before I go looking for a cardbus card if this is the only card I'll need to get her, or do I need to get both a cardbus card and an ethernet card?

Answer
Hi Linda, not a stupid question at all. There's no reason to buy something you don't need.

What BestBuy was suggesting is that you buy an Ethernet card that fits in your CardBus slot, like this one from NewEgg.com for $17.99

You install the drivers from the CD, plug it in the side of the laptop, and then plug the network cable into it.

That should be all you need.

Good luck and happy surfing!
