About Lauren Bennett Expertise I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.
Experience B.S. in Computer Science. Buying and selling for years. Assisting friends/family.
Laptops - What laptop would you recommend for a business student?
Expert: Lauren Bennett - 3/22/2008
Question Right now, I'm leaning towards Dell or Levono.
Features I want it to have:
- At least one 6-cell lithium ion with 2 battery slots
- WIFI, Bluetooth and Ethernet integrated
- CD/DVD burner
- 1GB+ ram with upgradeable ram up to 4GB or more
- At least 120GB+ SATA HDD (preferable 160GB+) - at least 5200 RPM+
- At least 667MHz
- At least 1MB L2 cache (preferable 2MB+)
- 3+ USB 2.0
- 5 in 1 card reader (SD Memory Card, Memory Stick, Memory - - Stick PRO, MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Card)
- Good quality sound card
- Keyboard, touchpad
- Windows Vista Home Premium+
- Anti-glare if possible
- Must be mobile! (easy to carry - preferable less than 16")
I want the laptop to be silent (no humming) and to load/start programs fast.
I don't want a laptop that will overheat fast.
I want the laptop to be durable, to last at least 4 years.
The only games I will be playing on this laptop are online games and games that are already included like solitaire.
I'm using this laptop to take notes, make reports/presentations, etc. (school related)
My budget is $1500 (CDN), but I want to spend less than $1000 (CDN). - I'm willing to order from USA and the Canadian currency is close to the American currency, so it's not a problem.
Also, I'm in no rush to buy a laptop, but I'm hoping to buy one before school starts (Sept '08).
Answer Okay here is take one on a new laptop for you! Let me know what you think!!

It was originally $1,548.00 but as a college student, Dell gives you discounts. YOu get $324 off for a limited time sale plus an additional 12% off, so it brings the final price of the laptop down to $1,126.08 plus tax (shipping is free).
This computer comes with a four year on-site warranty. This means that Dell guarantees this laptop will work for FOUR years. Normally it also comes with on-site repair service as well but I am not sure how that works with not being in the US - I don't know about Dell warranty coverage elsewhere. I wasn't sure what you meant about two battery slots because I've never seen a laptop in my life with two battery slots so I just got you two batteries!
