I am coming to start grad school in the US and would love to buy a new notebook computer or a laptop. Since you described a laptop as something more suitable for playing games and doing performance work, I guess a notebook would fit me better, since I will need it for business in the future and will be traveling a lot.
Since 2003, I've been using Toshiba Satelite A45 series. Yes, very old one. But it is solidly built and I like it so far. However, I would like to hear an expert opinion, and would be very grateful if you could help me to choose a light, nice looking, and durable laptop or notebook for not more than $2500. And what about Mac?
Thank you. I will look forward to your reply.
Best,
Sogdiana
Answer Hi Sogdiana:
Sorry For The Delay
First let's tell you that the available models from famous manufacturers like HP, DELL, Toshiba and Sony are all good models but some of them may have some little defects. Dell and Toshiba Laptops are more durable than the others, but if you take care of your laptop, every model can be durable.
In Toshiba models, the one which fits your needs is Portege series. In Portege models, R500 is the best. It is very light and nice looking, but the screen is small(12")
In Sony laptops the one I think would satisfy you is AR series. They are nice designed, lightweight and good in performance.
Also take a look at the new Dell Studio series. They are not so lightweight, but have a good performance and looking.
I have written an article on choosing a Portable computer some days ago and suggest you to read it. You can download it from http://www.wikiupload.com/download_page.php?id=44823 (the download button is in the right side, at the middle of the page.
>>>Please notice that 2500 is so much for a good laptop. I recommend you not to pay more that 1200-1600$ on a laptop. Instead you'll be able to but another one after two years.
