Laptops - Which lightweight laptop shall i get?

Expert: Mohammad Babaee - 8/4/2008

Question
Hi Mohammed,

I've just been awarded some money through the disability support office at uni to help me get a lightweight laptop that would be easier for me to carry round than my current one. I'd be very grateful if you could come up with any ideas as to what i should get.

The laptop i would be after would need to be as light as possible and have wireless capability, but apart from that i'm just looking for the best model for the money. I live in Britain so it would have to be available/compatable for the British market.

I'll tell you what i've been awarded and what they've told me it's for:

£715 for a 'laptop PC, Mobile Light Superdrive'

£23.50 for an 'Ergonomic Laptop Bonus Pack' (what is this by the way?)

£188 for 'Microsoft Office 2007 Pro Academic Ed'

£410 for a 'Laptop Warranty Pack'

So that's it. I really would appreciate it if you could help. I've no idea about this sort of thing.

Thanks,

Tim

Answer
Hi Tim;

I am very very sorry for the delay in the answer.

First, Congratulations with the award.

You have to notice that the light ultra-portable laptop your are looking for will have hardware limitations, usually no optical drive and a small screen size. You can have better choices than ultra-portable laptops in your price range.

I suggest these ultra-portable and light weight laptops:
1.Sony VAIO TX series(1.2Kgr, built-in DVD burner, very stylish)
2.Toshiba Portege R500(780 grams, built-in Optical drive, stylish)
3.HP Pavilion TX2500 series
4.Sony VAIO TZ series(really fantastic, but a little expensive)

Please search manufacturers' website for the above models' configuration and design.

Think about my suggestion. You can buy a powerful, stylish, portable(around 1.8Kgr) laptop with your budget that can fully satisfy your needs than buying a very light weight but not powerful laptop.

There are more good choices for you.

Wish You The Bests

Sorry Again For The Delay.
