Question
QUESTION: I am about to buy a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with the below configuration.  It will basically be used to surf the internet, play music, and do picture editing using photoshop.  We want a fast speed laptop.  Do you think this setup will do that?

Also, I was thinking of adding the 'AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress ATSC TV Tuner w/ Media Center Remote Control' for $100.  Do I have everthing I need to make it work or am I going to have to buy more stuff?  What are your thoughts on this TV tuner?  Does it really work and can we watch lots of stations?

Any advise would be great!  Thanks!!!!!

ANSWER: Hi Michele;

The configuration is the best for your work.If you have no problem with Vista, it is the best.
All you have to notice when buying an Express card for your laptop is to find out its type.

There are two standard formats of ExpressCard modules: the ExpressCard/34 module (34mm x 75mm) and the ExpressCard/54 module (54mm x 75mm). Both formats are 5mm thick, the same as the Type II PC Card. The standard module length is 75mm, which is 10.6mm shorter than a standard PC Card. Both module formats use the same connector interface.

All Dell Inspiron models use 54mm Express cards, it means you can insert any express card in the slot.

Yes, the AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress enables you to watch TV programs.

QUESTION: I really don't know much about the differences of express cards.  I have 2 options when buying this laptop: Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition or an ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Sound Card ($54 extra).  What's the difference and which do you suggest?

Thanks!
Michele

Answer
The difference is in usability and portability. The Express Card will occupy room in the slot while the onboard card will perform weaker.
If you want to add other Express Card device to your laptop, I suggest the first choice, if not, you can buy the second one too.

Wish You Luck

Mohammad
