Laptops/Advent 7105 will not boot

Question
Hi
I have an Advent 7105 running Windows XP Media Centre which has recently broken. When it is turned on, it initially works but reaches a screen with options about start mode (safe mode, last known settings, start normally).

However, whichever of these I choose, it begins to load for approximately 5 seconds before restarting itself and going through the same process.

It also cannot recharge the battery (I have tried buying a new one and inserting that but that does not work either) so must always be connected to the mains and makes a high pitched screaming sound when the volume is turned up beyond 15%, although these are longer standing, but more bearable, problems

Are these fixable problems and, if so, will it be necessary for the hard drive to be erased in doing so?

Answer
Hi Charlotte;

So many problems with you Advent!

If you do not have important info on you HDD, try restoring or replacing the Operating System.

The sound problem may be solved by reinstalling the driver, but the battery charging circuit must be replace.

Show you laptop to the nearest technician.

Best Wishes
