About Lauren Bennett
Expertise
I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.

Laptops - Sony VAIO

Question
I was interested in getting a Sony laptop but I was not too sure on which
model to choose from.  I wanted to get a 13.3 or the 15.4 inch laptop.  I will
be using it for school work (like word documents, notetaking in class,
researching, chatting), playing computer games (World of Warcraft), and
listening to music.  I'd prefer it to have a wireless card for the internet, VISTA,
and be able to run the laptop smoothly while multitasking.  I was also
thinking of spending no more than $1500.  Also, I know they're lots of
coupons for DELL coupons, but do you know of any for VAIO's or any
discounts like for students or certain employers?

Answer
A 13.3" might be a bit small for gaming.  I have one about that size and while I love it for portability and going to class, it is a bit small for gaming.  I have a desktop for that purpose.  A 14" or 15" would suit you much better for an all-around computer.

Dell and HP are the only ones I know of that offer employee discounts and Dell is the only one I know of that offers discounts to students.  Right now Dell has some great sales on their E1505 where you can get up to $700 off (usually $500) so you could get up to a $2,000 computer and fit right into your price range.

Anyways, here is what you'll want.
--Vista Home Premium
--Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
--256 MB non integrated video card
--1 GB of RAM @ 667 Mhz (it is a cheap upgrade)
--a good warranty (preferably with at home service) and accidental damage/theft protection if you are going to be having it at school.  dell includes all of that and offers you an extra discount for buying the bundle and also throw in antivirus software.
--a battery upgrade

beyond that, everything else is your choice.  the only problem with Sony is that they are a bit over priced and I have been unable to find any real discounts for Sony.  As far as quality goes, they are in third behind Dell being first and HP being second.

If I were you, I would check out the Dell E1505 and Sony VGN-FE890.  Customize them both and see which one is the cheapest and go from there

use the following link to get into Dell under the university system (if you aren't signed up for it).  you don't need a username, just click the link underneath or choose 'higher education faculty, staff students' in the drop down menu.

also, these coupons may work

-Use code 05SF554JGRJZSF to save $500 off any $1,499.00+ Dell Inspiron notebook. (valid 5/9/2007 12:00:00 AM - 5/16/2007 11:59:59 PM)
-Use code 3WBWBT01KSXPCS to save $300 off any $999.00+ Dell Inspiron notebook. (valid 5/10/2007 7:00:00 AM - 5/17/2007 7:00:00 AM)

let me know if you have any questions =]
