About Lauren Bennett
Expertise I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.

Laptops - best laptop for a salesman
Expert: Lauren Bennett - 6/15/2007
Question QUESTION: I have just beome a salesman. I need to know what would be the best laptop
for a salesman who travels around alot in his car. What I wil be using the
laptop for is presentasions videos and pictures, lists for leads(what is the
best software), and I would like to have internet access at all times. I would
also like to use the laptop to play civ4. I own a minimac right know which
before I became a salesman I used for internet access, email, and store
pictures. Now I need a laptop for bussness purposes that I eally never had to
deal with before I got this job. What I sell are very high end machines.
ANSWER: What type of machines do you sell? How much were you looking to spend or hoping to spend on a new laptop? What size screen were you looking for? I'd personally recommend 15" unless you have a preference. Do you want/need a warranty? I'd recommend a 3-4 year warranty. It will make the laptop cost significantly more, but in the long run it will be financially wise. Let me know and I'll get back to you with a good configuration. I'm guessing you are looking for a PC now that you need one for business purposes?

QUESTION: I sell cnc machines with the price ranging from $20,000 to $500,000. I am
looking to spend $1,500 to $2,000 for the laptop. A 15'' screen is fine and the
3 to 4 year warranty is also fine. For sure I need internet access at all times. I
will be using the laptop for bussiness only, but I want to play civ4 on it too. I
also want to know what to get with the laptop as of software. Microsoft office
compared to this new thing vista.
Answer As you don't have the luxury of getting student discounts on software, it might be cheaper to go with it pre-installed from Dell. However I'd look at the cost on their website vs. looking around on other websites for sales. You can get it pretty cheap if you are patient.
I would personally recommend the Dell Insprion E1505 with the 3-4 year bundle that gives you 7%-10% extra off when you add it to your cart. It is the highest ranked laptop out there and Dell has an incredible warranty.
I'd personally go with a 256 MB video card, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1 GB of RAM @ 667 Mhz (2 GB if you have the money, but it won't hurt you if you can't get it), a 9 cell battery, the N-wireless card (biggest upgrade but it will help your wireless signal), and then whatever Office software you need if you want to get it pre-installed. The Home and Student Edition comes with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you need more, you'll have to get a more expensive edition. I'd also recommend a DVD burner because you can store 6 times as much on a DVD as you can a CD in terms of backing up your computer. Finally, you'll probably want a 120 GB hard drive since this is for business as well.
The operating system is a hard call. I personally love Vista and have it on both my computers. Other people don't like it. A service pack is due out in October I believe. If you go with XP, go with XP Professional. If you go with Vista, go with Vista Home Premium. Dell gives you the option to go either way.
I believe I have covered all the basics. If I missed anything or you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
