About Lauren Bennett Expertise I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.
Experience B.S. in Computer Science. Buying and selling for years. Assisting friends/family.

Does the bloatware take up a lot of space, his 120 gig hard drive shows about 96 available after installing AIM and OFFICE 2007......Thanks again!! You know your stuff!!STEVE________________________________________
Answer Looks like a fantastic computer :) I'm glad you like it! The reason it looks like so much space is taken up is just because of stuff that is manually on the computer. The operating system takes up space. The backup hard drive takes up space. The system restore takes up space. etc etc :) I have an 80 GB hard drive on my new laptop and on my old one and I never ran out of space -- I had a few games, pictures, music, and all my school stuff on it. No worries with the space thing.
Printers is a question with an impossible answer. It's a really hard call because price is irrelevant; you totally have to factor in how much buying ink cartridges will cost.
Personally, I agree with the laser thing. I have one. I have the Samsung ML-2010 and I love it. Its pretty small, reliable, toner lasts forever, and I can highlight what I print without smearing ink! :) I don't really miss color -- I always tried to avoid printing in color because the cartridges cost a fortune to replace.
That being said, my vote would be with HP or Dell for printers but even within there, some are good, some are bad, and some are okay. Other brand names make good printers too -- HP and Dell just have a "reputation."
At my house, we've got a variety of brand names. I've had Canon (cheap ink, but you can't put it in storage over summer without replacing the ink) and the same goes for Epson. Both were good printers. I've also had Dells, which were great but ink was so expensive. I've also had HP printers. I've been all over the board :). None that I really hated though.
You'll want to get one that is pretty small. Also check out the ink on Staples website because you can sign up for free one day shipping (costs nothing) and they sell "knock-off" ink for a lot of printers that works just as well as the "real" expensive stuff. I always use knockoff ink :).
So the reality is that its an impossible call to make. Your best bet is to read a lot of reviews, have him talk to friends, ask your friends, and find something with affordable ink and that is relatively small. I almost splurged for one that copies/scans as well because that can be very handy (the only reason I didn't is because my apartment lets me do that for free). But again, it depends on his needs/wants and your budget.
I'm a fan of my laser printer and probably won't go back to inkjet, but there are tons of them for pretty cheap prices and its very common among college kids.
So, sorry I don't have a concrete answer for you -- I wish I had one because it would have made my printer shopping SO much easier if there was a straight forward answer as to what to get.
So really just check out reviews, look at size, and look at the cost of the ink.
Good luck in your search and I'm always around if you have questions.
