About Lauren Bennett Expertise I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.

Question Hi,
I was wondering if you could advise me on which laptop i should ask for from
my parents for Christmas. I am from UK but we have the same brand of
laptop as you have, anyway i can always order it from USA.!! I am only 13 so it
cant be too expensive. I was considering the Apple Macbook at $1099 but
since my parents said it was too expensive i was wondering if i could get a
refurbished one. I also looked at the Sony VAIO NR series at $1000 which was
more in my price range. But i really love the Apples. Do you think that i could
get an Apple Book G4 - the older version??? It would be for school and for
coursework. I would need USB Ports and to put CDs in it. i deeply dislike
Packard Bell, Dell, Toshiba and HP. This laptop has to be very good looking
since i am at the fashion consious stage of my life!!! I am also a bit of a
showoff and since Macs are the thing to have i would really like one of those
but CHEAPLY!!!!! I also like the new VAIOs alot.
Answer Unless you are a graphic designed, architect, or primary create music, an Apple computer will do more harm than good. Those computers are designed for those needs and, therefore, are more expensive because they come with software for accomplishing those tasks. Otherwise, Macs are not compatible with things that people do in every day life and you will be screwed if it breaks - you might even have to come to the US to have it fixed.
Additioanlly, Sony laptops are the second most overpriced notebooks on the market (after Apple).
Around here, everyone buys a Dell because they are the best in quality, reliability, have agreat warranty, great customer service, and you could afford one.
Tell me what you love about the Apples so maybe I can figure out which notebook would be best for you. What does the Apple laptop have that none others do (besides looks)? If you are willing to pay an extra $500 to have a "good looking" laptop that won't function very well, then I guess Mac is the way to go. Otherwise, I'd recommend other routes. Additionally, all software for a Mac is harder to find and it costs more than normal software and you usually have to buy two sets: one for the Mac side and one for the Windows side of the computer. The two are not compatible.
By the way, the Dell XPS M1330 is the slimmest computer in existance. In a recent poll of the "most attractive computers", Apple didn't even make the list.
