About Lauren Bennett Expertise I am a computer science major and my dad is an Electric Engineering, so my life has revolved around computers. For as long as I can remember, I have been buying and selling computers. I tend to travel a lot, so I have always had a laptop. I have bought 5 of them for myself, and bought around 30-40 for friends and family. I have dealt with the good and the bad of various version and brand names. If you are in need of buying a laptop, feel free to contact me and I'm sure I will be able to guide you into purchasing the laptop that will be the best fit for you. I will custom build you computers for you to choose from so you can get an exact idea of what to go and buy when you do it yourself and so that you have an exact price. However, I am in the USA and am only knowledgeable about computers here in the US. I do not know about foreign currency or the quality of computer brand names outside the US.

Question Hay, sorry this isn't really about BUYING a laptop, I just wasn’t sure where to put the question, and you sound like you know your stuff!
I’ve had my laptop for about a year and all of a sudden when i try to play music or vids the sound cuts in and out, it sounds like it's really struggling to cope with it. I figured it was probably just because my hard drive was getting full etc, so I cleaned up a huge amount of space, defragged, ran anti-virus/spy ware programmes, but the sound is still skipping. I have no idea what it is.
I’ve tried to understand the processes and CPU usage in task manager thinking it was overloaded, but i haven’t been able to work it out. It does seem to work when the CPU usage is below 10%, but as soon as i even minimise a window it starts skipping and CPU usage jumps up.
I’m running a Phillips freevent laptop, WIN XP, 100GB hard drive, centrino dual core T2300 processor @ 1.66GHz and 2GB ram.
It seems like a good spec to me, but its even struggling with media player! In every other way its working fine, which is confusing!
any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks for your time-
Dave
Answer that's really weird because i just started having the same problem with my desktop. they came and replaced the sound card, with no luck. they then came and replaced the motherboard, with no luck. i then reinstalled the operating system - no luck. unable to solve the problem.
is yours all sounds? mine was - whether i was playing itunes, or listening to doors slam shut on AIM, it did that skipping thing. so weird.
i wish i could resolve your problem because then i could resolve mine :)
one resournce i usually always turn to that i haven't yet is http://www.pchelpforum.com. There is always someone on there that can resolve any problem in the world you are having with a computer.
I'm going to refer you over there... and let me know if you solve the problem because I would love to solve mine! :)
