Expert: Laine Wightman - 10/8/2008

Question
I was trying to book tickets for Vegas shows on Internet.I am getting different rates from different sites for same day same show at same venue.I will be in Vegas  from Dec 15th to 21st 08 & am interested in Mama Mia & few other shows.Do I have to book in advance & if so how do I go about it so I will get proper seat at competitive price.

Answer
Hi Shantaram,
You DO need to book in advance.  Sooner than later for the big shows.
I'm glad you are going to see Mama Mia while you are here. The show is closing on January 4th.  The Lion King will take it's place, opening sometime in May.
When we book shows, we book at the web site for the theater or ticketmaster.  I know there ARE other sites out there for "discounted" tickets, but I haven't used one.  I find that I always have questions about where the seats are, and don't necessarily want the next seat that comes up on a web site.
  VisitLasVegas.com
is a site from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and it will tell you all the shows that will be here while you are here, and allows you to reserve tickets there, too.  I don't know of any BIG shows that are discounted.  You can also check with your casino host if you have one, at the hotel where the show you are interested in is playing, and see if they can do anything for you, based on your level of play.  Here's an article that also does tell you about discounted show tickets and where to find last minute discounted tickets for (usually) the second and third tier shows in Las Vegas...........the booths are called Half Price Tickets and you will see them in several places along the Strip as described in this article from About.com:
         http://govegas.about.com/od/shows/a/showtickets.htm
I do hope that this information will help you find just what you are looking for.  I must admit that I am hesitant about booking expensive tickets anywhere but the "official" ticket sales agent.
Please write again if I can help with any further information for your trip.  I will say that we thought that Jersey Boys was terrific, Mamma Mia good, and we love all of the Cirque Shows........Love, Mystere, O, Ka, and there is a new one opening at the Luxor, but they keep pushing it back.......Chris Angel's Mindfreak, I think, is the name of it. Jersey Boys has some lousy language in it, but the story and the music are great........In my own opinion, of course!
   Have a great time!
