Expert: Tom Date: 4/21/2008 Subject: Bachelorette Party
Question Hi Tom,
I am planning a bachelorette party for at least 6 and maybe up to 8 girls age range 22 - 26. We need rooms and places to go for June 13th and 14th. I wanted to get a suite and all share but it seems that most of them only hold 4. Do you think it would be good to try and fit 6 in together? So far I think that Luxor and Venetian have the best rooms for us but I'm not sure if those are good hotels to stay at. I hear Mandalay Bay has the best pool. We are hoping to spend about $50 - $100 per person per night for the room because we are saving $$ for the drinks, dinners, clubs, etc. We want this party to be unforgettable. We are planning to go to a few clubs (Jet, Tao, LAX....?) one night and then either Chippendales or Thunder Down Under (Which is better?)another night. A day at the pool would be good too. Any advice you could give would be wonderful.
Answer Hey Melissa,
You guys are going to have so much fun! I'll give you some thoughts on the best rooms and places to go...
ROOMS
Most suites in Vegas are just larger-than-normal rooms which may have a couch or extra TV. Some of the really nice suites actually have a separated bedroom from the living room, which make for a great party room. But, as you are finding out, most suites usually only have a king bed and maybe a fold out couch. Two bedroom suites do exist, but they are extremely expensive unless you want to stay at a condo hi-rise off the strip somewhere. And even then, most two bedroom suites have at least one king bed, so the sleeping arrangements can still be difficult for a large group.
So, what I usually recommend is to get two adjoining regular rooms and look for a place that has a sitting area so you can use the rooms together like you would a suite. You mentioned Venetian, which I think would be a great choice. All the rooms come with a sunken living room and couches, so you would be able to hang out and use the rooms for your own personal lounge. Maybe you could get two adjoining rooms there and set up camp. I'm not too sure about Luxor... their rooms are fairly small, and they don't have a whole lot of extra space to move around. I'm not familiar with their tower rooms, so maybe those are a little bigger and better, but I don't think they would be as perfect a choice as Venetian.
Another thought I had would be to get a Bungalow Queen suite at MGM, and an adjoining standard room next door. That way, you would have four beds, a wet bar, a living room and all the nicer amenities that come with a suite, like larger closets, garden tub, dual vanities, etc. I just took a look at standard pricing for your dates, and the Bungalow suite is running at $269/night, and the regular tower room is at $189/night. So if you split the cost among six travelers, the per person cost would only be $76 each night. If you had eight girls, then the cost would only be $57 per.
There are plenty of rooms in Vegas where you could combine two rooms, or a suite and a room, and have a great party pad. MGM is the first place that pops to mind, but you could also investigate Planet Hollywood, Treasure Island and Mandalay Bay. Any of those places would work well, if the price is in range.
POOLS
Mandalay Bay does indeed have the best pool. I love their pool for so many reasons - the lazy river, the wave pool, the lagoons, hot tubs, tropical setting, not to mention the beachside casino cabana and Moorea Beach Club. I've recently discovered that you don't have to be staying at Mandalay to use their pool. If you enter through the Moorea Beach Club entrance, you don't have to be a guest of the hotel. You do have to pay $10 per person for women, and from there you can stay in the private beach club section, or you can walk over to the main pool just like you are a guest. I would highly recommend spending some time at the Mandalay pool complex. If you stay at MGM, they have recently completed their new pool area called "Wet Republic," which they are calling 'daylife' (as opposed to nightlife). Venetian also has a great pool deck and private club area called 'Tao Beach'. You can take a peek inside the various Vegas pool parties at http://poolparties.napkinnights.com
CLUBS
I highly recommend Tao, Body English and Tryst as the best places to go (especially for bachelorette parties) for nightclubs in Vegas. I went to LAX last summer and wasn't all that impressed... it looked like the same old club that was there before (Ra), and it was hard to move around and get to the bar. Jet was okay, in my opinion, and a lot of people swear its the best joint in town these days. But I don't think its at the top of my list - didn't like the music too much, and the doormen were kinda rude (although that is pretty standard). You might check out the new club at Planet Hollywood called Prive as well. I like their layout.
REVUES
I can't help you too much here. My sister went to Chippendales and had a fun time - I think both shows are about the same, but I haven't been to either so I really can't say.
I hope this was at least a little helpful. Let me know if you have any other specific questions and I can help you plan.
