Question QUESTION: Hi, my 2 sisters and i are thinking of staying at Treasure Island Hotel (going in July). Got the petite suite for $159. less AAA discount of 10%. (king bed with pull out couch) We wanted a good mid range hotel. Is TI a good choice?
Second question: we were thinking of driving to Grand Canyon. Is that a good idea, or should we take the bus tour?
Thanks
ANSWER: Hi Dar
TI is a good hotel and that is a good rate you will enjoy it the only down side is that the pool is not so good, everything else is great. Some people have found the Strip sie rooms over the Sirens of Ti to be a bit noisy so if you think that this may bother you ask for a room not facing the Sirens. Try and get tickets to see Mystere it’s a very good show.
Aside from one time I have always driven to the GC I like having the freedom and the break that I sometimes feel I need from people when I am in Vegas. If you drive you need to leave early we usually leave about 7am and get Breakfast enroute often at the Hacienda just before the Hoover Dam. The drive takes 4-6 hours mainly depending on the traffic at the Hoover Dam and of course how fast you drive. The drive can be a bit monotonous but I still love it. We usually have lunch at the GC and the dinner at the Hacienda on the way home. Last time there was 7 of us in a Dodge Caravan it cost about $12 each in fuel and admission to the park.
Have a great trip

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick reply. If you had the choice where would you stay? TI or Mirage? As noted above we can get the petite suite at TI for $155 a night (petite suite). We can get the deluxe pool side view or strip view at the Mirage for $199 a night? Is the extra $45 per night worth it to stay at the Mirage?
And as far as our trip to the GC, would you suggest the west rim or south rim?
Thanks again,
Dar
ANSWER: Hi Dar,
I don’t think that the rooms are any better at Mirage unless you get a remodeled room or a suite and the fact that you have a suite at TI for less than a room at Mirage means that the actual room you have will be better at TI. The pool at Mirage is fantastic and we like the coffee shop at Mirage and the whole atmosphere it feels more sort of old Vegas. Many people think that the Mirage is too dark but I like that and I also feel that the service is slightly better. In short I think that the Mirage is only worth the extra $45 if you think its worth paying that for a great pool and giving up a bit of square footage in the room.
I have just booked the Mirage for Xmas that is my personal preference, but this is just a room if I had the choice of a suite at TI or a room at Mirage I would probably take the suite.
South Rim every time the West Rim is where the skywalk is and its not like the GC that you see on TV and at the movies, aside from that to get there you have to drive a long unmade up road that is not good for the car and many people get punctures. South Rim is fantastic and has a nice village there where you can get food and see all sorts of things at the visitors centre.
Hope this helps

QUESTION: Hi again, any advise on where to rent a car so we can go to the Grand Canyon?
Answer Hi Dar
I am British and Dollar always have the best deals for me, I always book with Dollar online. At Xmas there was a Dollar desk at TI between the Casino and the car park but this is no longer listed on the website so I suspect its gone. I think with that gone the nearest Dollar desk is at Bellagio rent it before you leave home as its much cheaper and at busy times the car rental places sometimes don't have any availability.
