Las Vegas - 5 friends from England on first trip to Vegas in Oct + Best place to go on Halloween
5 of us are travelling from England on the 27th Oct 2008 for 5 nights to Vegas. It's our first trip and want to get a suite or two connecting rooms with queen beds. Our budget is around $140 per person per night. What Hotels do you recommend we have been looking at the Ventian, Bellagio, New York New York? We will be looking at setting up a credit line and were wondering which is the best Hotel to do this at and which offers the best comps! As we will be there for Halloween and have heard that there are normally good parties in Vegas! Do you know which would be good? Also is it hard for 5 guys to get into the clubs at the same time or would be need to turn up in smaller groups?
Thanks
M
Answer Hey Mon,
Sorry for the delay on answering this question. I've been out of town for the last five days... (vacationing in Vegas!)
Anyway, here are some thoughts on your questions:
ROOMS:
You guys have a pretty good budget for the rooms you want. Only a couple of the highest-end suites are more than you are looking to pay. My top recommendation for you would be to get a "Panorama" suite at the new Planet Hollywood hotel, with a connecting queen bedroom. I just checked the prices for your dates, and it looks like the suite is $549/night and the connecting room would be another $149 per night - so altogether the price would be $698 per night, which is $139 per person. That price does not include tax, but if you book it online they have a $40 discount per stay per room which would bring the cost down to your overall budget. The Panorama room is spectacular. It has a huge living room with couches and tables, wide-screen television, full-size wet bar with bar seating and a garden-sized jetted tub with a retractable wall that faces the living room. The windows form a semi-circle facing the strip. It's quite the party pad. The adjoining room would be just a standard room with two queens, but would provide extra sleeping quarters. But I'm sure everyone would spend all their time in the Pano suite.
Planet Hollywood was recently renovated so everything there is really nice and new. Its connected to a huge posh shopping mall, and they have a great new nightclub called Prive. I'm not positive, but I would think that since you are renting their big suite, they would give you guestlist access to the club whenever you want. You would just need to ask for it when you make reservations.
If for some reason that won't work for you, I would then investigate adjoining queens at: 1.) TheHotel at Mandalay Bay (all-suite hotel); 2.) Hard Rock Hotel (standard rooms); 3.) MGM Grand (Bungalow Suite + Standard Room). I think you'd be happy with any of those.
Really, any of the hotels you mentioned would be okay, but if you're looking for the party vibe then investigate the hotels above.
CREDIT LINE/COMPS:
I'm not sure but I believe that only one line of credit can be opened per person, just to eliminate payback confusion. Any of the hotels would be more than happy to establish a line of credit, assuming of course they can verify your qualifications through your bank. Most of the hotels have a marker request form on their website, or you can call and ask to speak with a casino host who can assist you. Actually, depending on how large a line you anticipate opening, you should just call the host to begin and let them arrange the room details for you. Just call the hotel's main hotline and ask to speak with a casino host on duty. They can take it from there.
As far as recommendations for best hotels for comps, well, a rule of thumb is that the nicer the place, the harder it is to get comps. Places like Bellagio and Venetian will expect some serious play before they offer comps. But some of the more mid-tier properties will be more equitable. You could expect more for your play at places like MGM, NY-NY and Planet Hollywood. Personally, I don't play enough in the casinos to get any huge comps, but I have gotten rooms and meals from the latter-mentioned properties after especially robust gaming trips.
PARTIES:
All clubs and bars will be having all kinds of parties for Halloween. Some places will have fully-involved theme parties with decoration and costume and others might just have drink specials. You won't have any problems finding places to celebrate Halloween all week long. Off hand, I haven't heard of any specifically quite yet because they haven't started promoting them this far in advance. But just stay tuned to websites like napkinnights.com and jeremywomack.com and I'm sure you'll see plenty of listings when the date gets closer. There is one party in particular called the "Pimp -n- Ho" Ball, which I think usually happens on the Saturday night of Halloween week. I'm sure you can find pictures of it, but everyone dresses up. The venue moves around every year, and I haven't heard about it yet for 2008. Just keep your ears open and check back with me later in the season if you would like more specifics.
It is difficult to get into clubs, so it really helps to be on the guestlist. You can sign up for guestlists at NapkinNights.com and ClubPlanet.com, which will help. But since you're there on weekdays it shouldn't be too much trouble. Just plan on arriving early, dressing sharp and offer a cash tip if you find yourself at the end of a long line.
Hope that helps.
