Expert: Tom Date: 5/27/2008 Subject: Tahiti timeshare free Vegas package not received
Question I am not a member of the timeshare nor do I intend to become one. I did, however, stupidly give my Mastercard # to pay $98 (REFUNDABLE!!) for the 4-day, 3-night FREE Vegas lodging, including a timeshare 2-hour promo. I heard about it on the local radio in Portland, Oregon, Rosanne Bar radio spiel, to call 1-866-91VEGAS. It included two tickets to her Vegas show and $200 slot money, etc. I was supposed to receive e-mail confirmation and the packet in the mail to reserve my trip. I have heard NOTHING; however, the $98 was taken from my account. I tried to call them re. this but just get recordings, and cannot talk to a person. How can I contact them? Is this affiliated with the Consolidated Resorts web-site that advertises the time share??? I have a feeling this was a scam and I have been duped. Any suggestions? At this point I would just like a Refund.
Thank you. Sharon Kays, Vancouver, WA
Answer Hi Sharon,
First thing to do is not to panic.
I'm sure this is legitimate, especially since YOU called THEM. If it would have been a random call to you from someone you didn't know, then I might suspect a scam. But there's really no way a scam artist could run radio commercials and get Roseanne Barr to lend her voice and name to it.
I'm not really very familiar with the Tahiti Village property, although I have heard their ads on the radio and on TV. The ones I've see use Alan Thicke and someone else named Tanya, but I believe it is the same thing.
My guess is that they just wrote down your e-mail address incorrectly, and that is why you never received your confirmation. What I would do is call the hotline as if you were a new customer all over again, and see if you can get back to the salesperson. Then once you're talking to a live body just explain how you're already a customer and you just never received your confirmation.
By the way, I just dialed the number you provided, and a real person answered the phone. I didn't talk to them, but maybe you were just calling before or after hours. Try again, and don't let them off the phone until they tell you who to call for customer service.
