Question I have had a host get us reservations to one of the NYNY's restaurants in the past but now we are going for my hub's 50th and she seems reluctant to help out with anything else (we are having 12 - 14 folks in for the weekend and coaster passes would be nice!).
We travel to NYNY 3 - 4 times a year (spend anywhere from 1 - 2k per visit) and never ask the hosts for anything, and we don't always use all our comps. Am I being unrealistic? What exactly are they there for? Should I try a different host?
The first time I went with a friend who booked on a offer, got upgraded for free, got a fruit and cheese plate sent to the room and only spent 500.00 in gambling.
Any advice would be helpful! Thank you.
Answer Hey W,
I have had alternating luck with casino hosts in the past as well. From the looks of your play, you are sort of near the bottom of the heap when it comes to working with a host for comps - please don't take that the wrong way... you certainly qualify for comps, but there are lots of high rollers out there who get priority attention.
Like I said, I'm in the same boat as you are. And there's really no way to know exactly how a host is going to treat you, unless you are a $10k+ player. Sometimes, if they are looking at you as a developing player, then they might give stronger comps in hopes that you will make them your "home" casino. Sometimes, they just have extra inventory so they've loosened their levels for who and when they'll comp. Sometimes they are all booked up and they become very tight with comps, you just never know.
But, if you have a solid gaming history with NY-NY, I wouldn't think it would be out of bounds to call the casino marketing department, ask for the host on duty and just have a frank discussion about what they can get for you, and where you rank in their system. They'll tell you where you need to be, and what you can expect.
Hope that helps. And just because your host can't get you exactly the things you want every time, don't take that to mean they won't ever. It's a constantly sliding scale.
