Laser Eye Surgery - Adenoviral Keratoconjunctivitis, subepithelial opacities or scar tissue of cornae?

Expert: Dr Anand Shroff, MD, FICS - 3/14/2008

Question
Dear Dr.

6 months ago I had a viral infections with adenovirus  and developed keratoconjuctivitis. Unfortunately at the same time I was suffering from Bells palsy , which was the initial reason I visited the ophthalmologist and got the infection with the adenovirus.
My infection had complications as now, after 5 months I have a blurred vision. I went to many doctors , getting different answers from each.
I was told I can remove the corneal lesions by laser, that I should not do anything about it and it will come and go for many years and that it will leave after 2 years and so on.
I am completely mixed up and don,t know what to do.
The vision now is blurred all the time and when I used cortisone some days ago as one of the doctors suggested it only got worse and remained like that until now?
Is there any treatment about this condition?
I really have difficulty functioning through the day as my vision is restricted.

Kind regards

Olga

Answer
Dear Olga,

Viral infections with adenovirus which develop keratoconjuctivitis can sometimes last for months to years. The laser unfortunately does not remove the lesions entirely.

You need to get the Bell's palsy checked just in case it's worsening the situation with dryness.

Keep me posted.
