Question QUESTION: Hi ,
My question concerns my mother who is in India.
She is 65 and has glaucoma and cataract. She also has severe dry eye.She is under treatment but lately has been complaining of loosing her vision close to 90%.Doctors are recommending immediate surgery for glaucoma and cataract since her eye pressure is very high.
My question is,what surgery should be performed first and what are her recovery chances from this. She is also diabetic. What precautions will she have to take before and after the surgery.
thank you so much for your time .
ANSWER: Dear RASHI ,
Thanks for asking such elaborate and interesting question
i am personally of opinion that one can do anti glaucoma surgery first and then do cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation at 2 nd stage but if urgency demands one has to do combined procedure and there is no point in delaying the surgeries because if you delay the glaucoma will cause permanent irreparable nerve damage which cannot be recovered even after surgery also she has diabetes so if that has caused any more damage to the retina the visual recovery is limited BUT for whatever it is worth you should get her operated immediately as doctor advises
If you any further questions please revert back to me
Thanking you

QUESTION: Thank you for your response.Once last piece of advice on recovery and the medications she is getting .Surgey was performed but vision has gone very blurred ,however eye is not red anymore.Pain was better earlier but looking at computer for few seconds gave her pain in the eye.Are there any precaution that she has to follow.
After surgery she is putting some Gentel gel and lumegon ,dortas 3 times instead of betagone.Fluorometholone after surgery to put 4 times for 4 days.Adlube once at night . Does it all sound okay?
thank you once again for your advice and i really appreciate your help.
Answer Dear RASHI,
Thanks for asking such elaborate and interesting question
was only glaucoma surgery or combined surgery performed
the drops seems perfect and if she is getting symptomatic relief that is excellent surgery and she seems to be in very good hands and also visual recovery if it has to take place will take quite some time for regeneration of cells which have Been damaged over the time so rest assured please wait she will do well
only after long term results are known the FDA will give permission but it is a long way to go so just wait till we get results
If you any further questions please revert back to me
Thanking you
