Question Doctor,
As I am curently suffering from myopia, I would like have some information about ICL ( Implantable Contact Lens). Can ypu please help me in this regard.
This is my current detailed information:
1. Name : Prashanth Narayana
2. Age : 30 years
3. Defect in eyes: Myopia - ( Right: 13.5 D (2.2 cylindrical), Left
-14D (2 cylindrical)
Since, my cornea thickness is found very thin, my doctor did not recommend for LASIK. He suggested ICL instead. Here are my questions regarding ICL :
1. What are the risks involved in ICL ?
2. Is there any side effects after the operation ?
3. What is the approximate cost for the operation/ procedure ?
4. Can astigmatism also be corrected with this ?
5. Is it covered under insurance ?
I would really appreciate your response at the earliest. Please do get back to me for any further clarification if any.
Answer Dear Prashanth,
Thank you for your query
The numbers that you have sent us are higher than the range of any laser eye surgery, although the latest laser that we use can treat numbers upto -14.00 D and astigmatism (cylindrical) of upto -6.00 D However there is an alternative treatment. This is called 'Implantable Contact Lenses' or ICL.
