Laser Eye Surgery - blurry and double vision after cataract surgery

Expert: Dr.Manu C.Rajnani - 5/15/2008

Question
my 80 yr old mother had cataract surgery 8 weeks ago on right eye. all went well, no problems. she then had her left eye done 4 weeks ago. every since that surgery, her vision in the left eye is blurry, has double vision and she says that every thing appears twice as large than as seen in right eye. will this go away and what is causing it. she went for follow up today and doctor gave her no answer. he did tell her that she did have some swelling behind retina the first week after surgery but it is all gone now. she did not have any of this before surgery. thank you in advance.

Answer
Dear ALICE,
Thanks for asking such elaborate and interesting question

YES IT IS very much possible to have this problem because before cataract surgery since cataract is there neither the patient can see nor operating surgeon make out since cataract is blocking the way, and mostly these types of swelling are pre existing anyway this is nothing to worry about since mostly with oral and local medications she should be improve so just have faith in your operating surgeon and follow up regularly for him to reevaluate and modify the medications accordingly
