Question I never had allergy eyes before I had Lasik eye surgery; now my eye doctor claims I have allergy eyes. My eyes itch and water and he has given me drops to use. My question is this. Does having Laski eye surgery promote or result in allergy eyes? I just find it very odd that I never had a problem prior to my eye surgery!
Answer Dear Carole,
No, LASIK does not cause any increase in susceptibility to eye allergies. These allergies are under the eye lids whereas LASIK is on the cornea, anatomically a different area itself.
However, after LASIK, lifestyle changes to do more outdoor activities, no more glasses as protection from dust etc if you were using spectacles earlier, hence follow simple precautions like wearing sunwear in the open, avoid dusty areas, and if in one, wash hands before touching the eyes.
If you suffer from repeated colds, treat that as well.
Hope these tips help,
Regards,
