QUESTION: Dr. Banaji,

That's not a problem at all. I totally understand you must be receiving numerous questions each day.

Here's my query again:

This is with regards to an eye problem I'm having. I was earlier consulting Dr.Anand, but now he is on vacation. I hope you can help me with this. I have pasted my conversation with Dr.Shroff below.

Following up wiht my conversations with Dr. Anand I had visited my local specialist and he advised me to add on Alcon Naphcon-A eye drops. So I have been using all the three: Alcon Naphcon-A,CUSICROM 2% & COLIRCUSI DE ICOL 2% for 5 days. I have been asked by my local specialist to continue these medications for 7 days. My situation improves temporarily when I use the drops but after a couple of hrs it begins to worsen again. So my eyes are still red all the time. Also since today my right under eye has swelled up quite a bit. Something like a bite. No itching, pain or discharge.

What should I do? Should I visit another specialist? I am very worried? Could this be a serious problem?   I would really appreciate your prompt response.

Thank You

Regards,
ofiya

Below are my earlier conversations with Dr. Anand Shroff:

I underwent LASIK three and a half months back in India. It was perfect and I had absolutely no problems at all. All post operative procedures were fine.  Just came to Dubai, U.A.E 15 days back and since then my eyes have started itching and they are red all the time, especially at nights when i sleep. They water too occasionally. What could be causing this? I had nasal allergy when i was residing in Dubai, but not this eye problem. If I accidently rub my eyes while sleeping could this cause a problem?   Thank You in advance.

ANSWER: Dear Sofiya,   It is likely that you have an allergic conjunctivitis as the symptoms you describe sound like that.   You may have to visit a local eye specialist as this will need treatment with eye drops which are available by prescription alone and not over the counter.   You may also be having mild dry eyes, for which until you meet a specialist you may use a lubricating eye drop or artificial tears like Refresh tears or Genteal. These are safe to use without prescription and can be used upto 4-5 times a day.   Hope this helps, Regards, Dr Anand Shroff, MS (OPHTH), FICS

QUESTION: Dr. Shroff,

The eye specialist had given me the following drops:   CUSICROM 2% & COLIRCUSI DE ICOL   I have no more itching or watering but the redness in my eyes has shown no improvement.   Are these drops causing any problem?
Thank You

Answer
Dear Sofiya,

This is a mild antiinflammatory and antibiotic combination, which takes about 7 days to work. Use it as prescribed and do not worry. If not better, write back. Also, make sure that you are using some form of artifical tears (lubricating eye drops).

Regards,
Dr Anand Shroff, MS (OPHTH), FICS Cornea and Refractive Surgeon, Shroff Eye Hospital and LASIK Centre

Answer
Sofiya,
You seem to be suffering from Dry eyes.. you will need a combination of anti inflamatory eye drops combined with lubricants as prescribed by your local eye specialist. I do not prescribe any medications on this forum ( or anywhere else) without seeing the eye in question.
best of luck

Dr Banaji
