Question
Dear Sir,
I am just married & my wife she is 24 years have a cataract problem in both eyes.
what should i do in this case?
Doctor's saying an eye surgery will be done in 6 months if problem increases.
some doctor's suggested  do not disturb eye till the age of 35.
We are in trouble please suggest us because she is doing MA final. This is affect her study also.
Can she study with this problem?- Doctor's suggetsed a minus no specs to read.
Will this effect growth of cataract.
What precaution we can take to reduce it's growth.

Answer
Dear Mr Deora,

Firstly, do not worry. It is not uncommon to find a cataract in a routine check up. If she is having no difficulty in vision, this may be something she has had since birth and may not get worse.

If she is having difficulty in her routine work because of the cataract it may need treatment. However, studying or doing any work which causes eye strain will not cause the cataract to increase.

It will increase only as a natural progress.

You may read more about the advances in the cataract technology on www.shroffeye.org.

We would be happy to help her if she is in Mumbai.

Regards,
Dr Anand Shroff, MS (OPHTH), FICS
