Question
Hi,

I had Intralase Lasik Surgery about half a year ago. I was had really bad vision prior to Lasik (-9 glasses). Although I can see a billion times better than before, I noticed some regression. At my last exam, I needed glasses and I now wear -1.50 glasses. Is it normal to regress this quickly and is there anything I should be concern about like Ectasia? They recommended an enhancement, but at this rate even with an enhancement will my eyes continue to regress? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Dear Lynn,

I can understand your concern. It would be best for you to send me a Topography map (recent one) preferably taken on the Pentacam where the posterior corneal curvature can be noted and the diagnosis of ectasia will be evident if there.
To be able to enhance the same, one also needs to know how much cornea is there after LASIK, which laser technology the center is using for the treatment (Intralase is not LASIK! it only makes a fal with a laser which is a pre step, the numbers are then treated or 'removed' with another laser technology- which I will need to know, as the amount of cornea lasered depends on this).

If you can also send your pre LASIK data it would help.
the same can be sent to safalashroff@lasikindia.in

I am sorry, that I need to ask you these details before commenting on what you should do. In any case, until you are sure of what it is, do not undergo another treatment, as this can be done anytime later as well.

Dr Anand Shroff, MS (OPHTH), FICS
