Question Hi, I am an Indian, aged 39, wearing corrective glasses since I was in grade 6. I tried contacts and was OK with them for a few years. I have had to stop using them due to constant travel and areas of work being very dry and sandy. I would like to have LASIK performed. I had the tests done at Anuditi Eye clinic in Mumbai and was advised that I would benefit from wavefront guided/optimized LASIK.. Current details are Right Eye: Sph -5.00, Cyl -025, AX 165 AND Left Eye: Sph -5.00, Cyl -125, AX 05
I do have a few harmless floaters in my right eye. I am also borderline diabetic (non insulin dependent - but do take oral medication). I also do have increased pressure in my eyes for the last 9 years. I have them checked every quarter, but doctors have held off from giving me any eye drops for glaucoma. Prescription has stayed stable for the last 5 years or so.
Please advise if I should proceed? if your centre performs wavefront guided/optimized LASIK and what would be an approximate cost?
Answer Dear Roop,
Thank you for your e mail.
Firstly, to clarify that the floaters are in the vitreous and probably due to your high Myopia. These will not increase or decrease because of LASIK.
Wavefront is todays modern LASIK technology applied by many lasers, some built from scratch, others upgraded.
The successful outcome depends on not one factor which is just doing wavefront LASIK, but knowing what laser is going to do this and also the surgeons experience in having the ability to do it skillfully wihtout complications.
We would be happy to guide you regarding the same, especially since you have Glaucoma and diabetes, your eye needs to be evaluated thoroughly to see if LASIK is suitable.
We have done LASIK on candidates with diabetes (under control) and where it has not affected their eyes, same in Glaucoma.
However, it would be best for you to visit our website www.lasikindia.in for details and write an e mail to us for fees etc.
This is a forum that I personally do not use commercially.
I hope you understand.
