Question Hello, please advise me. I am 70 years old and have had lasik surgery to remove a cataract. I thought it was healing allright. but it seems to be red and rather sore. I am on medicaid and medicare, so I am limited to Dr choices. But the Doctor I have will not converse intelligently with me nor will he answer my questions or explain procedures.. He makes a joke of everything I say, as though he thought I were senile. Not that this is the least of my concerns. he has prolonged the use of Pred Forte eye drops 5ml,to span over two months usage. And I have read that this is a very dangerous drug to use for a long time. My suspicions are, that a doctor does not make money on a healed patient..!!
This man runs an assembly line of patients. wears clown shoes to work, and exhibits bazaar behavior.. I am thinking of switching over to the state hospital. Please help me with any information and advice you can pass along to me.. I will not hold you liable..just advise me. about this long usage of Pred Forte mostly. I am so worried, and with no one to talk to. His staff does not know what is going on even between themselves. so there is no one I can ask questions to.Usually I get NO response.I do not like this doctor, am I wrong? Thank You, Laura.
Answer Dear Laura,
Yes, one would be careful to use Prednisolone which is a steroid for a long period. there are many other substitutes, however some still use Pred Forte but usually for 6 weeks post cataract.
This is done under the doctors supervision and one usually does check for the IOP or ocular pressure on each visit.
Also, you could not have had LASIK done to treat the cataract but may have undergone the cataract surgery in the stichlless manner which lay people usually call 'laser cataract surgery' although no real laser is used in this process.
LASIK is for removal of the spectacle errors.
The redness in your eyes could be arising from some acute allergy or infection, but yes, only an eye specialist can help you with this.
If you are not satisfied with your current healthcare provider, then it would be best to seek another opinion.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
