Question how long should we wait to use water in the eyes after catract surgery.
is it true that after the surgery size of the eyes increase.
Answer Dear Ajit,
Cataract surgery does not alter the shape or size of the eyes. You can wash the face gently the next day itself, however, washing the eyes is not recommended by us at all, irrespective of whether you have had a surgery or not. Washing your eyes with water leads to Dry eyes and also not knowing the source of water may cause infections.
For the first week following surgery you should protect the eye from injury. Do not rub or put pressure on the eye.
We instruct to clean the eyes asa follows:
Take small pieces of cotton wool and place them in a bowl containing water. Boil for 10 minutes and keep the bowl covered. Wash your hands with soap. Take a small piece of the sterilized cotton wool from the bowl. Squeeze out the excess water. Clean the discharge around the upper and lower lids without applying pressure on the eye.
Hope this helps,
