Laser Eye Surgery - epi-lasik

Expert: Dr Anand Shroff, MD, FICS - 8/4/2008

Question
I got my epi-lasik surgery done in November 2007 from Punjab in India. Now I am staying in US.My questions are:
1.Before surgery my power was spherical (-6.5 appox. for both eyes)but now still i need to wear specs with cylindrical number around 1. Here in US doctors found astigmatism in my eyes which was not there before surgery. So my question is does it show that surgery was not done correctly and if i would be able to get rid of specs completely?
2.I am a very sensitive person so if I cry for any reason since Sometimes I can not help it, so does it really affect my eyes as they  have undergone a surgery.please answer my queries.

Answer
Dear Sapna,

Firstly, even if you have a small spectacle number (astigmatism or spherical) it can be treated again, so do not worry. Sometimes our bodies do not heal as planned also I have no idea about what exactly was done, so cannot comment if the surgery was at fault, but would not go into that.

What you need to focus on is that there is nothing abnormal with your eyes, you have a simple astigmatism which could be corrected.

Crying may not affect your LASIK/epiLASIK outcome after so many months, however why would you want to give your tear glands and exercise? Learn to relax, crying may just give you a lousy headache and spoil your day.

Cheer up and if in Mumbai on your next visit, we will surely do our best to help you.
