Laser Eye Surgery - One eye unsharp after LASIK Wavefront treatment
Expert: Dr Anand Shroff, MD, FICS - 10/30/2009
Question Dear Mr. Shroff,
I hope you can help me as I'm worried about my vision. I had Lasik-Wavefront on both eyes over a week ago. Right from the start I could see thing better with my left eye (which is now better then 20/20), but my right just doesn't seem to get sharper. The halos and glares are going, but in sharpness there is a big difference between left and right. Can this still improve or is it likely it will stay this way? It is really annoying as it's quite a big difference. Does my right I just need more time to catch up with the left? I hope you can out my mind at ease. :-) Thank you so much for you help.
Regards,
Dorien
Answer Dear Dorien,
Yes, we do find this happening at times as the healing of both eyes happens independently.
If one eye sees more than 20/20, basically it means that both eyes are seeing 20/20 only one eye better.
Over some time (takes upto 12 weeks in some) one gets adjusted to this, but provided they are not constantly checking their vision by shutting the eye all the time in the day.
everytime you shut one eye, you are sending an independent signal or visual pathway to the brain. Finally , we are seeing from the brain, not the eyes, the eyes are only pathways fro vision.
Hence, stimultaing the brian to learn that one eye is sharper, does not help.
All visual sympoms like glares etc in the first 3 months are a part of the healing process.
So, assuming that you are in this period...please hang in there!
