Question Dear Michael,
I have come across seven different translations of the Fatima prayer:
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen
These are the translations:
DOMINE Jesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, salva nos ab igne inferni, perduc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim eas, quae misericordiae tuae maxime indigent. (http://www.thesacredheart.com/latpray.htm#n)
O mi Iesu, remitte nobis peccata nostra! Libera nos ab igne inferiori. Miserere animis in purgatorio, maxime desertissimis. (I don't recall the source for this one.)
O Bone Jesu, libera nos a peccatis nostris; libera nos ab ignibus gehennae; perduc in paradisum omnes animas praesertim eas quae plus misericordia tua indigent! (I don't recall the source for this one.)
Domine Iesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, salva nos ab igne inferiori, perduc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim eas, quae misericordiae tuae maxime indigent. (from the Virtual Rosary at www.virtualrosary.org and http://www.trosch.org/chu/latin-prayers.html)
O mi Iesu, dimitte nobis peccata nostra, preserva nos ab igne infernali et induc in caelos omnes animas, praecipue eas, quae tua misericordia maxime indigent. (from an American priest in Italy)
Iesu mi, dimitte nobis peccata nostra, salva nos a flammis inferorum, duc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim misericordia tua maxime indigentes.
I am starting a Latin prayer group in the Mercer County, New Jersey, area, and would like to be sure I'm using the correct one. You are welcome to join us.
You help would be greatly appreciated.
Pax tecum,
Anna
Answer For such matters we refer you to the Traditio.com site, the earliest and most authoritative such site on the internet. The prayer given there in www.traditio.com/tradlib/latpray.txt is apparently the source of the second version in your list. The other Fatima prayers are there, as well as many other traditional Latin prayers.
