Latin - Honor, Courage, and Commitment

Expert: Maria - 6/20/2008

Question
Our U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corp. is looking for the Latin translation of Honor, Courage, and Commitment since these are our corp. values. We are hoping to put this translation on our t-shirts.

Answer
Hello,

The motto “Honor, Courage, and Commitment” translates as follows:

”Honor, Virtus et Officium”.

Best regards,
Maria
___________________________________________
Note that:

-Honor = HONOR (nominative case, 3rd.declension).
The English word is nothing but the same as the Latin term.

-Courage = VIRTUS ((nominative case, 3rd.declension) Note that VIRTUS means just ‘strength’, ‘vigor’, ‘ bravery’, ‘ courage’.

-and= ET

-Commitment= OFFICIUM (nominative case, 2nd.declension).
