Latin American Politics - About NAFTA?

Expert: Manuel - 6/18/2001

Question
Hi Manuel,
Welcome to this site!
I am wondering about NAFTA? Is NAFTA good for Mexico? Has it helped the United States? I have
been told by many Americans that NAFTA has hurt
them by sending their jobs to Mexico.
I would value your personal opinion.
Also does the President of Mexico have an address
when anyone can write to him?
             Best Regards, Darlene

Answer
Hi Darlene!
(What a beautiful name, by the way)

Well, yes, NAFTA is good for both countries. I represents cheaper craftmanship to the States and more potential markets for both countries. It all depends on the way you choose to see it. You can get a benefit out of it if you do a deep analysis of opportunities. Or you can be hurt by it if you cannot see in a long term basis, or if you simply let yourself be dragged by the stream.
I think it brings about lots of opportunities for both sides if you are clever enough to study the trends. It is a win-win treaty. Otherwise you can be seriously hurt by it, as well as people that do not update their information.

Best wishes!
