Question dear Manuel
I am involved in an election, and I am going to a mapa meeting and would like an opinion, my qestion is regarding immigration, if you are not comfortable with this, I would understand.
I belive that by allowing Illegal immigration that we all are guilty of exploting the brave people, Mexican and non-mexican citizens alike are all guily each with thier own purposes.
I feel that if it is stopped and they are given work permits ( yearly ) that then the explotation would stop. what do you think
if you wnat to know who I am visit www.gino4gov.com
Thank you for your time
Answer No subject makes me feel uncomfortable. I was born in America, son of a Spanish immigrant (from Barcelona, Spain) and a third generation American with Scottish ancentry.
You are correct, I think. Certain sector of the whole universe of people who come into the country illegaly are willing to take on whatever type of job, no matter how exploitive. This is particularly true with people who don't even have elementary school in their countries of origin. I believe exploitation come about when two parties lend themselves to it. It is a bilateral issue.
In the case of Mexico, specifically, most of the people who cross the border are uneducated people from the country. Typically Mexican people at a professional level don't come into the US for economic reasons (maybe cultural), they normally do well because Mexico offers respectable opportunities for them. However, all other South American countries are in so bad shape that even professionals have no other option than trying abroad, mainly in the US. That is why Mexican people seem to be at the bottom of the scale.
But they don't represent what Mexico really is.
I think the US government should grant permanent residence to honest hard-working individuals, who can proof they are not a burden to the country, and on the contrary, they create wealth by working. They play a pivotal role in the US economy, and the government knows it, otherwise they would be deported on the spot (if you think that is impossible look at France and Italy, both of which have the strictest immigration laws on earth). Hey, even Mexico is capable to kick out millions of Guatemalans who smuggle across their southern border every year.
You are right: the US government should grant an amnesty, like what Reagan did, after which immigration laws and enforcement should become as strict as in Europe. This will prevent a huge blow on the economy, and aid homeland security enormously.
