Latino Culture - Machismo, not interested or just plain flakey

Expert: E. S. - 4/15/2008

Question
Hello,

A Latino friend of mine told me that Latino's are known for not returning calls.  Men to men, men to women, women to women - you name it.  Is this a gross generalization or does it tend to be true?

Also, is there another way to "beat" machismo other than being submissive?

Muchas Gracias - An American Woman dating a Mexican Man.

Answer
Um, I believe that the phone thing is a generealization. Sometimes I may tell someone that I will call them, but if i plan on seeing them later that day in person, i'll save the phone call for another day. Maybe thats where the no returning thing comes from. I don't know, I haven't heard this one.

Being submissive is not "beating" machismo, its feeding it. Counter machismo by being machisma. Plus, if him being a machista bothers you, you should look for someone else, because chances are he won't change.
