Question I have asked so many people this question and gotten no answer.. i dont know why. But, In what way does Machismo intensify homophobia in latin america? If you can answer this question, does this mostly relate with homosexuality?
Answer Machismo is in essence the ability to be all that is defined as being a man. Strength, attitude, sexual abilities with a female counterparts and so on. Being more of a familial trait that is passed down from father to son, machismo has been fueled by the catholic church spreading it into social structure. Now to your question, in the eyes of a machista, being gay is the exact opposite of being man, even though sexual preference is only one part of being man. Machismo greatly intensifies homophobia, and with the backing of the church, I don't see machismo ever letting go of its social control any time soon.
