About Hannah
Expertise
I can answer questions concerning standard doctrines, scriptures, curiousities, Mormon culture and society. I will not respond to debates. I'm sorry, but there are some things that I simply will not answer, not because I don't want to, but there are some things that the LDS people do not discuss casually--it's only talked about within the temple. Though I am a member, I do not believe that anyone could convert anyone to a religion over something as impersonal as the internet. So I won't even try to.

Experience
I was born and raised into an LDS family and baptized at age eight. Though I'm still a young person, I can answer most things about the church. I graduated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Seminary of Religion and currently attend Brigham Young University, where all students study Latter-day Saint religion as well as their chosen field.

Latter-day Saints - Converting to LDS

Expert: Hannah - 4/9/2009

Question
What does it mean "to convert" somebody? I do not have a religion, can I still be converted? What are your LDS views on other religions? If people have already found religion, why would you need to convert them?

Answer
To convert someone means to bring someone into a religion.  Even those who do not "have" a religion can be brought into a religion, because, you really do have a "religion" per se, it's the lack of religion. In the LDS faith, we believe that all religions are trying to find the truth, but that most of them are just missing integral pieces.  And that is why we feel we need to convert them, so that we can give them the last few pieces and so that they can find what they were looking for. We find it important for ourselves to share what has made us, we believe, the happiest and most complete people that we can be.
