AboutMichael Kelley Expertise For a different viewpoint on Mormonism for your questions, try me. I am a staunch believer in the Book of Mormon and belong to another church (the Church of Christ)that is set up identically to the Biblical church. If there are things about traditional Mormonism that trouble you or you have questions about, just ask and you might find the answers from the Book of Mormon to be quite surprising. I have been studying the scriptures diligently for 16 years under the school of hard knocks... I may not have all of the answers but will sure go find them if I don`t. I`m strongest on Biblical and Book of Mormon doctrines, and am also somewhat familiar with Mormon history and archaeology.
Question Do Morman's not like black people and do they allow them to join there church.
Answer Hi Chris,
I will be happy to answer your question. Please note I am ex-LDS and belong to the original Church of Christ that believes in the Book of Mormon.
The Utah faction at one time were prejudiced against black people (African American) by excluding them from their priesthood. Due to political pressure they had a "revelation" that now allows them into their priesthood.
The Book of Mormon never taught this and teaches that all are equal in God's eyes... Jew or Gentile, Black or white. In Book of Mormon history there were even times when the fair skinned peoples were slaves to the darker skinned peoples (due to the iniquity of the fair skinned peoples).
The Church of Christ has never practiced racism and today we have more African members than there are whites. There are some 100 factions today that believe in the Book of Mormon, the LDS Utah faction is by far the largest, we are around the 2nd or 3rd largest. Feel free to ask other questions if you like,
